Buyers need help in visualizing how the property will provide the dream they are envisioning. Bernie McKinney: Broker

I graduated from Auburn High School in 1972. I have been married to Cathie-Valentine McKinney for 33+ years. She is a director in charge of communications at KPS health plans. We have two adult children who both work in the marketing profession.

I spent three years at Eastern Washington State College on a music scholarship (now EWU) and then graduated from the Ron Bailie School of Broadcasting in 1977. After 5 years in the broadcasting business I spent 20 years in the high tech business opening the first computer store in Bellevue Washington, moving on to Apple Computer in Cupertino California as a marketing specialist. The last 8 years of my high tech experience was with Eastman Kodak out of Rochester New York as specialist in Digital photography. I dropped out of the tech business in 1997 to settle into a profession that I could enjoy and stay closer
to home and nature. I've been in Land brokerage since.

Recently I had the opportunity to obtain a degree from Washington State University in Forest Stewardship. This allows me to write timber harvest plans, stewardship plans, current use taxation plans and much more.

I am a volunteer "Ambassador" for the King County Parks and Trails.
This requires me to observe and report issues relating to our parks and trails systems in King County. We are working on many improvements.

Bernie has been appointed to King County Rural Forest Commissioner position 2 ForestComm2@kingcounty.gov

I am an activist with the Middle Green River Coalition http://www.mgrc.org
. It is our goal to obtain money through grants to improve the trails system, vegetation, stewardship and to bring our youth back to nature while providing better habitat for wildlife and creating outdoor recreational opportunities close to home.

I am familiar with all issues related to the brokerage of land and enjoy consulting with landowners, prospective sellers, prospective buyers, farmers, and just plain folks who own land and need advice and assistance.

Real Estate Tips

About Appraisals >Working With A Real Estate Agent

It is not unusual for homeowners to yield to the temptation to try to sell their own home. It seems easy enough--just place an ad in the weekend paper and wait for buyers to show up. Although it may seem simple, real estate sales transactions are extremely complex proceedings.

The first pitfall can come with pricing your property realistically. Homeowners often price their property too high initially, then drastically slash the price when weeks go buy without an offer. Even if a prospective buyer agrees to the initial asking price, there could be complications if the buyers begin to feel that they have agreed to pay too much, or if the lender's appraisal values the property at far less than the agreed-upon price. Some clients hire agents to market their home professionally after weeks or months of trying to sell their own home without success, or after their FSBO transaction fell through.
